Food Waste Prevention

Preventing Food Waste

There is an increase in losses recorded annually due to the increased rate of food contamination and wastage. One of the areas in which biotechnology has been applied is Food Waste Prevention. It became a source of interest due to the increasing production of biofuel, compounds, and other bulk chemicals such as ethanol, enzymes, mushrooms, organic acids, etc., as well as the rising environmental degradation caused by the release of greenhouse gases. Hence, the residues are recycled into nutrients for plant and microorganisms’ growth.

The main goal of waste management is for the sustainable development of resources. Hence, the interaction between biology and technology can provide various methods for managing environmental pollution. Without this, the environment’s continuous pollution can lead to floods, diseases, and increasing damage to the ozone layer.

One of the most critical aspects of biotechnology is the use of sewage farms. It involves the use of sewage for irrigation and as a source of manure to farming lands. On the one hand, it helps in the conservation of water resources. On the other hand, it multiplies the soil’s nutrients and enhances healthy plant growth, thereby avoiding artificial fertilisers.

Other forms of waste prevention tools in biotechnology include phytoremediation, which uses plants to remove or evacuate soil contaminants. It is preferred to new clean-up instruments because it is nature-friendly, derives power from the sun, and is therefore cheap.

Foodsan

Foodsan works like a sanitiser that contains benzene-free two-chain quaternary ammonium compounds. Thus, its application does not require water for washing. Foodsan is probiotic and, therefore, invisible to the eye. It is a product used to reduce food contamination and, consequently, food wastage by expanding its lifespan.

For instance, green apples would last twenty-four days at four °C; potatoes can survive twenty-one days shelf life and twenty-three days for fresh salmon at the same temperature. However, some foods have a shorter lifespan; for instance, banana only enjoys five days of total shelf life at 25°C and ten days for tiger prawns at four °C. It also protects the meat from contamination or spoilage and preserves for a couple of days. In essence, Foodsan prevents contamination as well as waste production.

How It Works

Apply as A Bath or Spray

It is not visible but harmless. It is tasteless, odourless and essentially a probiotic formulated to preserve food commodities.

Attaching Beneficial Microbes

It enables it to form a low-residue due to the presence of a probiotic biofilm.

Storing Water in and Keeping Oxygen Out

This process helps the reduction of oxidation as well as preventing the destruction of pulp.

Producing Natural Protectants

Natural Protectants serve to prevent wastage through the production of probiotics cells.

The primary motivation behind Foodsan is the passion for the care of the food. At Firn M, we provide these services by Foodsan. Contact us today to learn more about Foodsan.

Reducing Gas Production

Foodsan reduces gas production, which consequently reduces carbon footprint and reduces global warming implicating practices.
